After much speculation, CBS has officially announced that Mark Harmon, best known for his long-running role on NCIS, will be stepping into the lead role for the upcoming Blue Bloods spinoff. The network is betting on Harmon’s strong fan base and law-enforcement TV experience to carry on the legacy Tom Selleck built as Frank Reagan.
Tom Selleck, who portrayed Commissioner Reagan for over a decade, confirmed he will not be involved in the spinoff, which is set to focus on a new generation of NYPD leadership. The storyline will shift slightly to focus on modern policing challenges while still honoring the family values and emotional depth that made the original series a hit.
Filming is expected to begin later this year, with CBS aiming for a 2026 premiere.
